Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (the “AGCO”) has imposed a CA$40,000 penalty on both Relax Gaming and Arrise Solutions for allowing their games to be accessible through unregulated gambling sites in Ontario.
The AGCO stated that their games’ availability on unlicensed websites assisted in fostering unlicensed gambling operations.
However, both Relax Gaming and Arrise Solutions were fully cooperative with the AGCO’s investigation and have acted promptly to ensure that their games can no longer be accessed in Ontario from unlicensed websites.
According to the AGCO, the regulated iGaming market in Ontario operates based on strict standards that were developed to provide protection for consumers, including responsible gambling and game integrity programs, and that unregulated gambling sites present an increased risk in relation to player safety, fraud, money laundering, and match-fixing.
In an unrelated matter, PointsBet Canada is waiting to hear the outcome of its appeal concerning the five-day suspension proposed by the AGCO due to not adequately reporting suspicious betting events the AGCO deemed were related to former NBA player Jontay Porter.
