The Prime Minister of Australia dismissed the calls for a national casino regulator after a report by the Bell that questioned the future of Star Entertainment Group.
Recently Adam Bell SC reported that the Star was unable to hold its license in New South Wales as it has been suspected in several crimes. As a result of the current report Anthony Albanese was asked about gambling regulation.
Member of the Australian House of Representatives Andrew Wilkie has led calls for a national query into the industry and its operators. According to him the reports are not a surprise and shows that the brand has serious issues.
At the moment the group is given fourteen days to make reply to those reports, as it is in danger of losing its license and having to pay 100 million Australian dollars as penalty.
Premier Albanese stated that measures taken in New South Wales showed that they have belief in states to be responsible for the sector.
In my opinion state regulators are handling the problem well as they are holding the operators responsible. I am not a supporter of regulation just like that. And I think it’s quite difficult for someone to say that neither Crown nor Star are currently being held accountable.
commented the prime minister.
It is important to note that The Bell also stated the situation with the CUP and not telling the truth banking institutions about the payments.
Besides, it was also stated that the star group let an organization, probably connected to organized crime, to perform action at Star Casino, and also hid the truth and some documents from the ILGA.
