Argentina shuts down 251 illegal gambling sites

The National Communications Agency of Argentina (ENACOM) confirmed blocking 251 gambling websites. It’s confirmed that this sites were operating without approval in the province of Buenos Aires.

The investigation, led by San Isidro cybercrime prosecutors, confirmed that these sites offered Argentine users casino-style games, sports betting markets and the usual promises of easy withdrawals. There was little for the average user to suggest that anything was wrong.

The authorities found that many platforms lacked real oversight. Investigators have repeatedly discovered cases where users were simply unable to withdraw their money. Funds appear to have completely disappeared into unregulated systems.

Illegal gambling is nothing new in Argentina, but the shift to online gaming has made it more difficult to control. Buenos Aires officials say that’s why coordination is important.

Blocking 251 websites is an important step and remrkable number in country’s illegal gambling spectre. It helps to keep a large part of the illegal market under control.
