Arizona reports record-breaking sports betting revenue

Arizona reported a record sports betting handle for the second consecutive month in November 2024, reaching $897.6 million (£708.2 million/€856.6 million).

This marked an 18.1% increase from October’s previous record of $759.8 million and a 25.8% rise from November 2023.

According to the Arizona Department of Gaming, online betting accounted for $890 million of the total handle, while retail wagers contributed $7.6 million. Consumer winnings across both segments amounted to $811.3 million, leading to an all-time high of $84.1 million in adjusted gross event wagering receipts. This figure surpassed the previous record, set in September 2024, by 8.7% and was almost double the total recorded in November 2023.

Online betting generated $83.3 million in adjusted receipts, whereas retail sports betting added $773,634. Free bets issued in November totaled $26.6 million, bringing post-deduction adjusted gross event wagering receipts to $57.5 million, an increase of 183.3% year-over-year.

In terms of handle, adjusted gross event wagering receipts before the deduction of free bets stood at 9.37%, while after deducting free bets, the November handle was 6.41%.

Flutter Entertainment-owned FanDuel maintained its dominance in Arizona’s sports betting market in November, leading with $29.9 million in adjusted gross event wagering receipts before free bet deductions from a $288.6 million handle, achieving a 10.36% hold.

DraftKings followed closely in second place, generating $25.7 million in revenue from a higher handle of $293.4 million, resulting in an 8.76% hold. BetMGM secured third with $12.7 million in receipts from a $111.6 million handle, posting the highest hold among the top three at 11.38%.

Caesars ranked fourth, reporting $4.0 million in combined online and retail revenue from a $52.5 million handle, equating to a 7.62% hold. Fanatics took $3.8 million exclusively from online wagers off a $42.2 million handle, translating to a 9% hold. Bet365 followed with $3.2 million in online revenue from a $39.2 million handle and an 8.16% hold.

ESPN Bet recorded $2.3 million in online revenue from a $28.4 million handle, reflecting an 8.1% hold. Hard Rock Digital was the only other operator to exceed $1 million in revenue, reporting $1.4 million from $20.4 million in wagers for a 6.86% hold.

Arizona collected $5.7 million in total sports betting taxes for November, with nearly all revenue coming from online betting, taxed at 10%. Retail betting, taxed at 8%, contributed just $57,358.
