Brazil’s attorney general’s office has applied to the country’s Supreme Federal Court for 72 hours to respond to the action against the government’s ban on gambling.
The application was submitted to Minister Luiz Fux, giving the AGU the required number of hours before the court hears a case against the ban from the Association of Gaming Players and the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming for the suspension of the provisional act of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The AGU indicated that it does not disclose its opinion on the subject of the matter, calling the request merely procedural.
The ANJL and IBJR have stated that the ban is unconstitutional due to the lack of urgency for the provisional act being timely and technologically proven.
Their aim is to prohibit any governmental authority from canceling the licenses of gambling companies while the matter is still discussed at the highest court of the country.
The AGU motivated their request for a period of 72 hours by their wish to give the president’s office and the AGU time to give their response to the court’s judgment regarding the requests.
