Bulgaria has updated its self-exclusion rules for gambling, extending the minimum exclusion period from 30 days to one year.
This change, enforced by the National Revenue Agency (NRA), applies to all licensed gambling operators in the country.
Currently, nearly 54,000 individuals have joined the self-exclusion program. To register, players must submit a request either online or at an NRA-approved office. Once registered, they can only be removed from the list once their exclusion period has ended, unless they are within the initial 30 days of signing up.
The self-exclusion list is confidential, but licensed operators must ensure that registered individuals are blocked from gambling. If a self-excluded person is found gambling, the operator must report it to the NRA immediately.
The rule also applies to employees of gambling operators. Since August 2023, the NRA has required that self-excluded staff members be banned from entering gambling venues, regardless of whether they are working or playing.
Additional restrictions prevent entry for individuals in uniform, minors under 18, armed persons, those without ID, and anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Although the self-exclusion program has been in place for several years, it was paused for two years due to legislative changes and only resumed in December 2022.
