China strengthens efforts to prevent online gambling & fraud

China has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening international law enforcement cooperation to combat online gambling and telecom fraud, with a focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

China is intensifying efforts to combat cross-border online gambling and telecom fraud, following a surge in scams affecting both Chinese nationals and foreign citizens.

At a 5 February press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian emphasized China’s commitment to international cooperation, particularly in addressing fraud cases near the Thailand-Myanmar border.

China continues to work with neighboring governments to develop joint strategies against these crimes, welcoming strict enforcement measures and deepening collaboration with Thailand and other nations.

The crackdown aims to dismantle criminal networks, protect Chinese nationals abroad, and maintain order in cross-border exchanges.

China’s heightened fraud prevention efforts follow several high-profile cases, including the recent rescue of actor Wang Xing, who was abducted in Thailand and taken to Myanmar under false pretenses. His case highlights the growing risks of transnational fraud schemes and the need for stronger law enforcement measures.
