Codere Uruguay expands responsible gaming with training and self-exclusion measures

Codere Uruguay has reinforced its commitment to responsible gaming by placing the prevention of problem gambling at the core of its operational strategy. The company operates five state-owned slot halls as well as Casino Carrasco, positioning itself as a key stakeholder in Uruguay’s regulated gaming market.

Fernando Pérez Tabó, Director of Institutional Relations at Codere Uruguay, stated that identifying early signs of problematic behavior forms part of the company’s daily operational focus. According to Pérez Tabó, responsible gaming is not treated as a peripheral compliance requirement but as a central pillar of the business model. The company distributes educational materials and promotes self-assessment tools that allow players to evaluate their gambling habits.

Staff training plays a significant role in this strategy. Codere Uruguay organizes training sessions led by Argentine psychologist Débora Blanca to ensure employees can recognize and appropriately respond to signs of gambling-related harm. In addition, the operator has maintained a three-year partnership with the Uruguayan Network of Psychologists, providing Casino Carrasco clients access to professional assistance under preferential conditions.

Pérez Tabó described the mechanism as an effective way to interrupt harmful impulses and support individuals seeking help, whether independently or at the request of family members. He also stressed the importance of early intervention, distinguishing recreational play from harmful behavior when gambling exceeds financial limits and begins to negatively affect personal life.

Despite regulatory headwinds, Codere is positioning itself to leverage the global attention surrounding the 2026 World Cup, including activities linked to its sponsorship at the Rayados stadium in Mexico. However, company leadership has acknowledged that rising media costs may constrain promotional strategies in the current environment.
