Colombia regulator creates registry to combat illegal slot machines

Colombia’s gambling authority Coljuegos has launched a new registry aimed at tackling the proliferation of illegal slot machines across the country, marking a strategic step in strengthening oversight of land-based gaming operations.

The registry, developed by the Colombian Gaming Authority, is intended to centralize information on authorized machines and aid enforcement actions against unlicensed devices.

Under the initiative, operators and venue owners must register their approved slot machines in the national database, providing authorities with a clear picture of legal gaming equipment installed in casinos and public venues. The move is part of Coljuegos’ broader effort to curb unauthorized gambling and protect players by ensuring that only licensed and compliant machines are operational.

The registry will also support targeted inspections, enable faster identification of suspicious hardware, and facilitate cooperation with local law enforcement to disrupt illegal activity. Coljuegos officials have emphasized that machine registration enhances transparency in Colombia’s regulated gaming market and helps safeguard revenue streams for both the industry and government.

Industry stakeholders and operators are being encouraged to comply with the new requirements, with the regulator outlining penalties for venues that fail to register their machines or are found operating unlicensed equipment. This development illustrates Colombia’s commitment to strengthening regulatory frameworks and ensuring that gaming operations remain within the bounds of the law.
