Danish gambling revenue grows in Q4 2022

The Danish Spillemyndigheden has recently published its report for the fourth quarter of 2022, indicating a 4.5% increase in revenue for the industry.

The headline figure represents the entire gambling and wagering industry’s performance, which earned over 1.7 billion Krones in the last quarter of 2022.

Breaking down the revenue figure by verticals, online gambling operators earned the most at over 770 million Krones. They also led the way in terms of growth, expanding by 6.5% in comparison to 2021’s last quarter.

Sports wagering followed closely, earning over 600 million Krones. Gaming machines and retail casinos were next, with just under 300 million Krones and 90 million Krones in revenue respectively.

Furthermore, the regulator also published the industry’s statistics for the entire year of 2022, which showed even more growth. Total revenue generated by the sector rose by about 8% to 6.7 billion Krones, up from the previous year’s 6.2 billion Krone figure.

The online gambling vertical earned 2.9 billion Krones in the year, slightly higher than 2021’s 2.8 billion figure. Sports wagering firms made over 2.3 billion Krones in revenue, declining by just under 90 million Krones from the prior year’s 2.4 billion.

Lastly, gambling machine operators and retail casinos earned 1.1 billion Krones and 350 million Krones respectively, each growing by 10% and 23% in comparison to the prior year. This is of course due to 2021’s pandemic-related restrictions, which were removed in the year’s first half.
