Danish online gambling surges 40% in May 2025

Danish players spent significantly more on gambling this May compared to the same month last year, according to new data from the Danish Gambling Authority.

Total gambling expenditure rose by 19.5% year-on-year, with the surge largely driven by a sharp increase in online casino activity. The growth in the iGaming sector is not only steady but accelerating at a notable pace.

While the highest monthly year-on-year growth in online gambling gross gaming revenue (GGR) since January 2024 was 27% in June, May 2025 broke that record with a remarkable 40% increase – surpassing all monthly growth figures since January 2021, when a 44% rise was recorded. The online casino GGR rose from DKK 278 million ($43.7 million) in May 2024 to DKK 389 million in May 2025.

Mobile betting continues to dominate the market, accounting for 66.43% of all gambling stakes in May, a trend that has remained stable throughout the year. Meanwhile, land-based casino activity has dipped slightly, with a 4.7% decline compared to the same period in 2024, though this drop was not enough to offset the strong gains made online.
