The Democratic Republic of the Congo is poised to expanding gambling sector with a national monitoring platform to trace igaming activities throughout the nation.
Congo is poised to bolster oversight of its burgeoning gaming industry with a national monitoring platform to trace gaming activities throughout the nation.
This step was announced by the Ministry of Finance on May 30 in Kinshasa by Didier Bobwa, Head of Information Systems and of Gaming Activity Monitoring, who reported that the new system will allow regulators greater visibility into the market, thereby enhancing supervision over the gaming industry.
The country’s gambling sector generates approximately $1.7 billion annually, however, a limited amount of that total, according to influencers, is actually collected by the Government through tax collections.
By integrating data and oversight, the Government hopes to create a system that ensures appropriate levels of tax compliance, provides additional transparency and allows the industry to contribute more effectively to the federal coffers.
Additionally, the Project, as part of a larger program of regulatory reform, seeks to comply with international transparency initiatives, such as the recommendations of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
According to Bobwa, the system will provide the Gambling Monitoring Unit with enhanced capabilities that allow for real-time monitoring of operators’ activities and activities in the gaming sector on a national level.
Dieudonné Ntumba, the Dominican Republic’s GMU Coordinator, stated that working closely with operators and regulators will enhance competition and reduce financial crimes.
