
The European Gaming and Betting Association (EGBA), which represents many of Europe’s top online gambling operators, has released its 2025 Annual Activity Report. The report highlights key achievements and provides aggregated market data from EGBA members for 2024.
In 2024, EGBA expanded its membership with Superbet Group, LeoVegas Group, and Sumsub joining the association. Collectively, EGBA members now hold 321 licenses across 21 European countries. Their combined online gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached €13.5 billion, reflecting a 15% increase from the previous year. This accounted for over 28% of Europe’s total online GGR, which stood at €47.9 billion in 2024, according to a previous EGBA report.
The total number of stakes processed soared to 177.7 billion, marking a 31% year-on-year rise. Meanwhile, the total value of stakes reached €215.6 billion, an 11% increase, despite a 14% decline in average stake value to €1.20. Customer winnings also climbed 11% to €202.1 billion.
Casino Games Dominate Online Gambling Revenue
Online casino games remained the biggest revenue driver, contributing 51% of total GGR (€7 billion). Sports bettingfollowed with 41% (€5.5 billion), while other gambling segments included poker (€0.5 billion), bingo and other games (€0.4 billion), and esports/virtual betting (€0.1 billion).
Casino games saw a 22% revenue surge, while sports betting rose 15%, and bingo and other games increased by 19%. Meanwhile, esports revenue climbed 16%, whereas poker experienced a 5% decline. Within sports betting, pre-match bets accounted for 63% of revenue, while live (in-play) betting contributed 37%.
Safer Gambling Initiatives & Regulatory Updates
The 4th annual European Safer Gambling Week expanded to a record 26 countries, with 195 stakeholdersparticipating and reaching 3 million citizens. EGBA’s annual sustainability report revealed record engagement with safer gambling tools, with 21 million customers (65% of the total) using safety measures and over 67 million messages sent to players promoting responsible gaming.
EGBA also conducted its second monitoring exercise on the pan-European responsible advertising code, focusing on youth protection measures. Additionally, the association advanced its anti-money laundering initiatives, organizing workshops to educate industry stakeholders on the EU’s new AML framework.
