Officials in Indonesia have dismantled a counterfeit currency syndicate following the presentation of counterfeit S$10,000 (US$7,500) notes at a Singapore casino. An Indonesian couple is said to have attempted to exchange a forged S$10,000 note for casino chips during their visit to Singapore.
Upon being informed that the initial S$10,000 note was counterfeit, the man presented a second one for verification. Both notes were seized by the casino and forwarded to CAD for investigation.
The couple, who traveled from Batam to Singapore on the same day, had received the two fake notes from a business associate in Batam as payment for a business transaction, according to investigations.
The police said:
As there was insufficient evidence to suggest that the couple were aware that the notes they were in possession of were counterfeit, the police, in consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers, has taken no further action against the couple.
