FanDuel has introduced a new responsible gambling feature named Real-Time Check-In, which uses machine learning and behavioral data analysis to track and assess users’ deposit patterns.
The Flutter-owned company unveiled the feature during the ‘RG Tech: Potential Game Changers’ panel at the Player Protection Symposium, part of the SBC Summit North America.
Called Real-Time Check-In, the tool acts as a proactive safeguard by analyzing customer deposits in real time to promote more mindful spending. When a deposit significantly exceeds a user’s typical behavior, the system triggers a prompt.
This prompt gives users the option to reconsider their deposit, reduce the amount, set a personal limit, or explore their spending trends using the My Spend Tool.
Cory Fox, FanDuel SVP public policy and sustainability, mentioned:
We know deposits are a key moment in the customer journey and Real-Time Check-In provides us an opportunity to surface deposit data in real-time to help customers make informed decisions about their budgets for our platforms before they’ve made their deposit. It is another step forward into developing tools that help our customers create budgets for their entertainment.
The tool is designed to prompt users to pause and reflect before making impulsive or irregular financial decisions.
It marks the latest advancement in FanDuel’s suite of responsible gambling features and draws inspiration from Flutter’s global initiatives.
FanDuel developed the system based on the model used by Sportsbet – Flutter’s Australian brand – which introduced its Real Time Intervention (RTI) tool in 2022. Like RTI, the system analyzes user behavior to identify unusual deposit activity and delivers timely prompts. RTI currently engages with 90% of Sportsbet users.
The goal is to equip the users with insights and resources that encourage healthier gambling behavior.
