FIFA renews integrity partnership with Sportradar until 2031

FIFA has decided to renew and continue its agreement for integrity services with the Sportradar Group AG for a further five years. This renewal of the contract was a strong sign of FIFAs commitment and trust in the collaboration with Sportradar in the field of integrity, thus allowing them to keep the fairness and transparency of football worldwide.

The new contract stretches the collaboration till 2031, thus strengthening the already good partnership to monitor betting activity and protect football from integrity threats. As part of the renewed contract, Sportradar will continue to provide its comprehensive AI-driven betting monitoring service solution. In addition, the agreement now also includes integrity intelligence, investigative support, and risk assessment services for FIFA and its 211 member associations.

This is a significant step for FIFA not only in terms of globally assessing the integrity risks of football but also in handling the rapidly changing football and betting environment.

Among other things, this deal means that Sportradar will be spreading the range of its integrity services to various competitions. These competitions will cover FIFA international men’s and women’s tournaments, international men’s and women’s confederation competitions, international club competitions, top two tiers of men’s and women’s national leagues, and major domestic cup competitions of all member associations.

Since 2017, Sportradar has been partnering with FIFA to provide integrity services worldwide, ensuring the integrity of over 600,000 matches by their proprietary Universal Fraud Detection System with Artificial Intelligence (UFDS AI). The system is built on more than 20 years of historical data, which it uses to detect abnormal betting patterns and identify potential match-fixing risks.

The global sports betting market has grown significantly in the past few years, which along with opening new opportunities, has also raised issues of integrity. The partnership resolves these problems by implementing technological monitoring tools at a high level, operational intelligence, as well as educational programs.

Andreas Krannich, the Executive Vice President of Integrity Services at Sportradar, said:

The partnership extension is a strategic move in that it further enhances the organization’s capability to identify, assess, and tackle integrity risks in the evolving complex global sports industry. This partnership extension also reinforces the organization’s and FIFA’s dedication to clean and fair sports at all levels and across the globe.

Sportradar explained that its integrity services are built around an integrated approach aimed at addressing and managing integrity risks effectively.

Krannich stated:

Our integrity services have been designed to tackle integrity risks in an integrated manner, including betting monitoring via our Universal Fraud Detection System with Artificial Intelligence (UFDS AI), developed in-house using over 20 years of historical data, in addition to fast reporting from betting operators, along with extensive education and prevention programs provided to sports organizations around the globe.

Granting the partnership extension to the year 2031 sends a very strong message that FIFA is prepared to look far ahead into the future and take the initiative in setting the right precedents not only for the integrity of its competitions but also for that of its member associations.

Moreover, the collaboration of FIFA with Sportradar, a top-notch company in this industry, not only demonstrates that FIFA is truly intent on harnessing AI-empowered monitoring tools and educational programs as the main ways to practically tackle these issues but also shows that trust in the sport at all levels is a very important product of their actions.

By teaming up with Sportradar, the worldwide soccer governing body is making a tangible demonstration of its willingness to keep up with the integrity risks and solve them effectively in the face of the rapidly changing sports environment. The partnership comes as a natural response to the growth of sports betting and the increasing use of technology in sports operations.
