The National Police Board of Finland received 75 applications for gambling licenses before the competitive markets began in the country in July 2027, surpassing the expectations made.
There are indicative signs that an increase took place in the number of applications.
NPB has confirmed that 75 applications were received when it was 50 just in June.
The noticeable number of applications is recorded as Finland is getting ready to open up the country’s gambling market for competition.
Veikkaus has also forwarded applications to secure its monopoly gambling position in the lottery sector, while it is aiming to take part in the newly implemented betting, online casinos, baccarat, and bingo gambling sectors.
In Finland, every gambling license comes with a fee of €29,000.
The total number of applicants is not disclosed, consequently, the 75 applications do not signify 75 companies, since an operator could submit applications for several license types.
Finland’s upcoming law will also introduce restrictions in gambling advertisements. As from July 1, 2027, National Supervisory Authority of Finland will regulate advertisements and ensure that their “amount, scope, visibility and frequency” are reasonable for the market.
There is no rigid deadline of application submission from possible entrants of the market starting from its opening in July 2027.
