After nearly four years as iGaming Ontario’s first CEO, Martha Otton has announced that she will step down on December 31. The board will begin the process of finding a replacement.
Martha was appointed to lead the business entity that became iGaming Ontario in February 2021 as part of the province’s rollout of a competitive, regulated gambling market. iGaming Ontario said it has created “a value-driven agency driven by a vision to lead the world’s best gaming marketplace.”
Martha’s career has spanned Ontario’s alcohol, cannabis, gaming, and racing sectors. Previously, she was Chief Strategy Officer at the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). She was responsible for the agency’s strategic plan and played a key role in implementing the AGCO’s expanded mandate for horse racing and cannabis.
Prior to joining AGCO, Martha was CEO of Legal Aid Ontario and held a number of positions in the Ministry of the Attorney General, including Acting Assistant Deputy Attorney General in the Agency Relations Branch and Director of Corporate Policy and Agency Relations.
Heidi Reinhart, Chair of the Board of Directors of iGaming Ontario, said:
On behalf of the entire Board, I extend my sincere appreciation to Martha for her leadership of iGaming Ontario. She has left an impressive legacy throughout her career, and in particular in the Ontario gaming sector. Ontario’s competitive gaming market is a testament to her visionary leadership and commitment to working with our operators and broader stakeholders.
