ITIA bans Italian tennis player due to betting violations

Italian tennis player Andrea Rita has been sanctioned by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), receiving a 15-month ban for violating its regulations on betting.

Rita has acknowledged four breaches of the ITIA Tennis Anti-Corruption Programme (TACP), with these infractions occurring between 2018 and 2020. The ITIA stated that these breaches involved instances of betting on tennis matches and failing to report a corrupt approach, both of which contravene the guidelines outlined in the TACP.

The ban prohibits Rita from participating in all forms of professional tennis from January 26, 2024, to April 25, 2025. This restriction encompasses playing in or attending events endorsed by ITIA members and national associations.

Furthermore, Rita, who achieved a career-high ITF singles ranking of 1,712 in June of the previous year, has been fined $5,000 (£3,945/€4,616), with $4,000 of the fine being suspended.
