Local media reports that the integrated resort in Osaka, which is a joint project between MGM Resorts and Orix Corporation, could open to visitors in late 2030.
The first casino resort in Osaka, Japan, could open at some point in late 2030, local media reports. The move comes at a time when the main operator is reportedly planning to waive its right to exit the project without penalty, Nikkei reports.
The massive development has been plagued by several delays and setbacks. Construction on the integrated resort project began back in December. At the time, the development cost was $8.6 billion, but several setbacks have pushed the price tag higher, pushing it above $9 billion.
However, the project could soon receive a significant boost, as suggested by a recent media report. According to the report, Osaka IR KK is expected to begin preparatory construction work at some point this month. Barring further disruptions and setbacks, the country’s first casino resort could welcome its first visitors in late 2030.
