Kazakhstan bans advertising of bookmakers and online casinos

Deputies of the Mazhilis in the second reading adopted the law on introducing amendments and additions to certain legislative acts on the issues of gambling, lotteries and lottery activities.

The Parliament of Kazakhstan adopted amendments to the law on gambling. A ban is introduced on advertising bookmakers and online casinos, their promotion in the media, the Internet and SMS.

Advertising gambling by bloggers will be considered an administrative offense, for which they will have to pay a fine of $450.

Citizens under 21 years of age, persons included in the register of debtors, heads of budgetary organizations, civil servants and military personnel will not be able to participate in gambling.

A complete ban is being introduced on the sites of offshore bookmakers and online casinos. Organizers of online casinos face criminal liability with imprisonment for up to 2 years.

The new restrictions are expected to affect the size of Kazakhstan’s gambling market, estimated at $2.85 billion in 2023.
