The Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) has taken down 20 illegal gambling apps from app stores since the start of 2025.
The regulator warned that the rise of such apps, often accessible to minors and promoted on social media, has become a pressing concern. It urged the public to report any suspicious apps they encounter.
According to the KSA, unlicensed operators frequently use deceptive tactics to mislead users, such as displaying logos of legitimate providers. In one instance, an app was found using the Holland Casino logo, while others, disguised as regular games, redirected users to unregulated gambling sites.

It is of great importance to the KSA that consumers continue to report these apps, so that this process can continue throughout the year.
When reporting gambling advertising, it is essential that the name of the app in question that is being advertised is mentioned in the report.
In addition to consumer reports, the KSA noted a growing number of tips coming from industry associations and licensed casinos.
A recent initiative supporting this effort is Meld Vals Spel, an online platform launched by Dutch online gambling trade bodies VNLOK and NOGA for reporting illegal gambling activities.
The KSA stressed that all tips submitted through this portal are actively investigated and mentioned it is working on formal agreements with app stores to streamline the reporting and removal of unlawful content.
This enforcement push follows a recent KSA investigation into print and online media outlets that were found promoting unlicensed gambling websites not connected to Cruks, the country’s self-exclusion system.
As part of this process, the regulator reached out to 42 editorial teams, and the media outlets promptly removed the illegal gambling affiliate links upon being notified.
