Macau reports fewer suspicious transactions in 2025

Suspicious transaction reports (STRs) filed by Macau’s gaming operators dropped by 14.9% in the first half of 2025, according to data from the Financial Intelligence Office of the Unitary Police Service.

Across all sectors, STR filings totaled 2,515 in H1 2025, down 12.6% from 2,879 during the same period last year. The decline was largely attributed to fewer submissions from gaming operators, although they still represented the majority of reports nationwide.

Gaming companies accounted for 73.8% of all STRs in the first half of 2025, slightly lower than the 75.8% share recorded in H1 2024. Meanwhile, financial institutions and insurance firms made up a slightly larger portion, filing 500 reports (19.9%) compared to 556 (19.3%) last year. Other sectors contributed 6.3% of the total, an increase from 4.9%.

Despite the overall decline in report volume, Macau’s gaming industry continues to lead in the number of flagged transactions. The Financial Intelligence Office did not provide additional insights into the specific nature or outcomes of the STRs.
