Massive betting scam uncovered in Rajasthan

According to NDTV, the Rajasthan Police have uncovered a massive online betting syndicate worth over ₹150 crore, resulting in the arrest of three individuals in Alwar, including a software engineer.

The trio is accused of operating around 30 illegal betting websites that resembled the Mahadev Satta platform, offering bets on cricket matches – particularly the IPL – as well as online casino games and traditional formats like matka.

Alwar Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Nain revealed that the suspects created fake betting apps to attract users, with payouts funneled through digital platforms and hawala networks. The operation came to light after cyber cell Head Constable Sandeep was detained by officers from the Udyog Nagar Police Station following a tip-off, which led to a deeper investigation.

Those arrested include Nitin Paliwal of Scheme No. 10B in Alwar, Mahesh Sharma of Apnaghar Shalimar, and Piyush Sharma from Shivaji Park in Mathura. Paliwal was caught returning from Agra, and data from his electronic devices helped uncover the broader operation.

Authorities say the suspects handled all aspects of the racket – from developing the software to managing financial transactions. More arrests are expected as the investigation uncovers additional links across the country.

All three have been placed in four-day custody, and police plan to seize assets connected to the racket under organized crime laws outlined in the Indian Penal Code.
