Ng Wai Han, the former director of Macau’s Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau, has been appointed as the new head of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), according to an announcement published in the government’s Official Bulletin on May 7.
She replaces Adriano Marques Ho, who became Macau’s customs director general under Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai.
Ng becomes the first woman to lead the DICJ, the authority overseeing Macau’s multibillion-dollar gaming sector. Her appointment marks the final stage of the leadership transition following Sam Hou Fai’s succession of former chief executive Ho Iat-Seng in December.
With a career spanning key leadership roles at the Macau Labour Affairs Bureau between 1999 and 2017, Ng later served as deputy director of the Public Administration Bureau before being promoted to director in September 2023. She holds a master’s degree in criminal law from Sun Yat-Sen University.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Tai Kin Ip praised Ng’s qualifications, citing her professionalism and competence. She will serve an initial one-year term.
Ng takes on the role during a pivotal period for Macau’s gaming industry, which led global casino revenues in 2024 with MOP226.8 billion ($28.1 billion), outpacing Las Vegas ($15.8 billion) and Singapore (nearly $6 billion).
