Norsk Tipping CEO Tonje Sagstuen has officially resigned following a lottery mishap last week, with the company’s Board fully backing her decision.
The resignation comes after a major error led to over 41,000 Norwegian players being wrongly informed of massive Eurojackpot winnings. The prize amounts were mistakenly inflated by a factor of 10,000, with 16,000 users receiving misleading push notifications. The incident has been attributed to human error.
Sagstuen, who joined Norsk Tipping 11 years ago and became CEO in September 2023, has taken full responsibility for the mistake and has decided to step down from her role.
Tonje Sagstuen, previous CEO of Norsk Tipping, mentioned:
As a manager, it has been my responsibility to handle the errors that have occurred, and it has been very gratifying to see how a united Norsk Tipping has responded to the challenges and worked day and night to solve them.
Sylvia Brustad, Norsk Tipping Chairman of the Board, added:
I would like to thank Tonje for the important and good job she has done for the company and for the improvement work she has initiated.
Lubna Jaffery, Norway’s Minister of Culture, commented:
We take note of Tonje Sagstuen’s departure. As I have said, Norsk Tipping is completely dependent on having the trust of the people. The exclusive model depends on that. The Ministry will continue to follow up with the board, such mistakes should not happen and we expect the board to work actively to improve control routines.
So far, 2025 has proven difficult for Norsk Tipping, which began the year by tightening loss limits for younger gamblers and is now facing a regulatory probe after allegations surfaced of children accessing its casino offerings.
