Ontario reports strong iGaming growth in February

iGaming Ontario has transitioned from quarterly to monthly reporting of online gambling data, a change announced by the regulator in January. The latest figures, covering February, were released on 19 March.

In February, total consumer spending on online gambling reached CA$7.13 billion (£3.84bn/€4.56bn/US$4.96bn), marking a 26.9% increase compared to the same month last year. The province’s regulated online gambling market has been active since April 2022, and monthly data is now available for the entire period.

Casino-style games dominated player activity, accounting for CA$6.07 billion in wagers—85% of all bets in February and 30.5% higher than the previous year.

Online sports betting followed, with CA$930 million in wagers, up 12.6% year-on-year. Peer-to-peer online poker generated CA$130 million in bets, reflecting a 6.5% decline from February 2023.

Ontario’s total igaming revenue for the month hit CA$280 million, up 19.2% year-on-year but down 5.7% compared to January.

Breaking down the revenue:

  • Online casino games brought in CA$214 million, a 30.5% year-on-year increase and 76% of February’s total

  • Sports betting generated CA$62 million in revenue, up 47.6%, with a monthly hold rate of 6.67%.

  • Online poker revenue dipped 9.4% to just under CA$5 million.

The data includes only operators licensed through iGaming Ontario and does not reflect activity from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) or pari-mutuel horse race betting.
