Operators in Ontario report $18B gambling handle in Q2

Ontario’s online gambling manager reported significant growth. iGaming Ontario revealed a total gambling handle of $18.4 billion in Q2 2024.

According to data provided by iGaming Ontario, Canada’s most populous province reported a total gambling handle of $18.4 billion in Q2 2024, a 31% increase compared to the same period last year. Ontario’s handle in Q2 saw its 50 operators generate $726 million in total gaming revenue during the period, a 34% uptick compared to Q2 2023. These numbers include online casinos, sports betting and poker.

Licensed operators had nearly 1.9 million active player accounts in Q2 2024, up from 920,000 in Q2 2023.

Casino games drove Ontario’s profits, with players wagering $15.5 billion, making up 84% of total wagers and generating $529 million in revenue, 73% of the total.

Sports betting saw $2.5 billion in wagers and generated $181 million in revenue in Q2 2024, buoyed by the Edmonton Oilers’ appearance in the Stanley Cup Final.

P2P poker had a handle of $402 million, up from $350 million in Q2 2023, generating $16 million in revenue.

Since launching sanctioned iGaming in 2022, Ontario’s commercial gaming has generated over $4 billion in economic value and created 15,000 jobs, exceeding expectations.
