Pechtold resigns from Nederlandse Loterij board

Alexander Pechtold has announced his resignation as Chairman and member of the Supervisory Board of the Nederlandse Loterij, effective 1 January 2026.

The decision comes as he prepares to take on his new role as Mayor of Delft in September.

Although recently reappointed for a second term at the request of the Ministry of Finance, which owns shares in the Dutch Lottery, Pechtold has chosen to step down early to ensure a smooth leadership transition in light of his upcoming political duties.

Since taking office in April 2021, Pechtold has played a key role in transforming the Supervisory Board and guiding the Lottery through the launch of the regulated online gambling market. He also contributed to the appointment of a new CEO and board members, while reinforcing the Lottery’s reputation as a responsible gambling operator.

In a statement, Pechtold praised the team and expressed confidence in the organisation’s strategic direction, adding that he will remain active in his role until January to support a seamless transition.

Council member Frida van den Maagdenberg expressed regret at his departure and commended his leadership and professionalism over the past four years.

The council has begun the search for his replacement.
