Dutch players were unable to access Pragmatic Play games on illegal online casinos that have had the operators content taken off their sites.
The unlicensed gambling platforms now have an option stating “not available in your region” so players are unable to access the games.
Many players using a Dutch IP address cannot access Pragmatic Play content anymore. It remains unclear what triggered the restriction or whether the company acted independently or following discussions with Dutch regulators.
The development could mark an important step in reducing the appeal of illegal online gambling in the Netherlands, aligning with the goals of the Alliance Against Illegal Gambling established by the Dutch Gaming Authority last year.
Pragmatic Play is considered one of the world’s leading online casino game providers, known for popular slot titles including Big Bass Splash, Gates of Olympus, and Sweet Bonanza. Research from Blask indicates the company holds an 11.85% market share in the Dutch online casino sector.
The provider also maintains a strong international presence. According to Blask data, Pragmatic Play is the market leader in countries including the United Kingdom, Italy, and Brazil, where its market share is reported to be close to 20%.
