The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ), part of Spain’s Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs, and Agenda 2030, held the first session of the newly restructured Responsible Gambling Advisory Council earlier today.
This meeting marked the renewal of the Council’s members, following the expiration of the previous term in May. It was led by Mikel Arana, Director General of the DGOJ, who presides over the Council.
As before, the Council brings together professionals from national and regional administrations, along with experts in health, science, and academia who specialize in gambling-related harm, and representatives from institutions tied to the gambling sector.
During the session, the DGOJ introduced the draft of its Safe Gambling Program 2026-2030, a strategic framework that lays out the government’s gambling policy direction for the next four years.
The program focuses on three main priorities: reassessing the current situation, promoting prevention and responsible gambling, and enhancing player protection. It also outlines six strategic goals and 22 concrete measures to be pursued in collaboration with the Council.
Council members now have three months to review the draft and submit recommendations. The aim is to reach an agreement and formally approve the final version at the next meeting, establishing a clear public policy roadmap for safe gambling in Spain.
