Success Universe posts $52 million loss after Ponte 16 writedown

For the fiscal year 2025, Success Universe Group reported a net loss amounting to HKD 410.4 million (USD 52.4 million), reversing profit of HKD 93.4 million (USD 11.9 million) in 2024 and mainly related to impairment charges associated with Ponte 16, its former satellite casino in Macau.

The principal cause of the company’s downturn for the year was the impairment charge of HKD 340.7 million (USD 43.5 million) for its ownership interest in Ponte 16, which represented approximately 83 per cent of the Group’s total loss for the financial year. The Group also booked a prorated loss of HKD 3.8 million (USD 485,000) from its associates connected with Ponte 16, compared to an equity contribution of HKD 112 million from the same associates in financial year ended 30 December 2024.

The actual closure of the Ponte 16 casino was announced on 29 November 2025 because the parties involved (SJM Resorts Limited) could not execute a full acquisition agreement. SJM Resorts had previously indicated an interest in acquiring multiple satellite casinos prior to the December 31, 2025 deadline, however, ultimately went ahead with only the acquisition of L’Arc Casino.

On its Ponte 16 investment, Success Universe said:

While the Group anticipates a significant adverse effect in its share of results from the associates following the cessation of Casino Ponte 16’s operation, the Group remains committed to its investment in the Ponte 16 project. Ponte 16’s strategic focus will shift towards maximizing the value of non-gaming assets while continuing to explore new hospitality and leisure-entertainment opportunities to drive sustainable long-term value.

Despite these losses, the company recorded an increase in total revenues of approximately 16% year-on-year, to HKD 59.7 million (USD 7.6 million) from the company’s other business segments, including travel services, property investments and financial assets.
