Spelinspektionen, Sweden’s Gambling Authority, has released its Q1 financial results for the year.
Licensed casino operators reported a total turnover of SEK 6.61 billion ($688.94 million), reflecting a 1% year-over-year decline.
Online casino and betting remained the leading segment, generating SEK 4.28 billion-virtually stable, though slightly down by 0.2%.
Turnover from state lotteries and cash machine games dropped 3% to SEK 1.3 billion. Casino Cosmopol saw the steepest drop, plummeting 60% to SEK 26 million. Before COVID-19, it typically generated around SEK 245 million, but revenues had already declined to about SEK 145 million before tapering off in 2024.
Meanwhile, gambling for public interest purposes, such as lotteries, saw a 3.5% increase to SEK 886 million. Games for public benefit like hall bingo stayed flat at SEK 49 million, as did land-based gambling, which held steady at SEK 52 million.
Though this data reflects only licensed operators, ATG noted that unlicensed gambling sites still claim a significant share of the Swedish market.
