Swedish Gambling Regulator put a 4 mln fine on Betfair

Betfair, a British gambling company, has been recently instructed by the Spelinspektionen to pay a fine of 4 million Swedish krona, and the reason is providing betting services to players under the age of 21.

According to the Swedish Gambling Authority, the offense committed by Betfair was categorized asseriousdue to its systematic nature, as it violated the regulations that only permit betting on the top four Swedish leagues. Additionally, Betfair has been cautioned by the regulator, as their investigation revealed that the company had facilitated betting on a total of 148 U21 Allsvenskan matches in 202122 years.

Swedish bettors placed bets worth 1.1 million krona on 139 of the matches, gaining the company 5,354 krona in profit. Betfair has stated that it has taken measures to prevent future violations of regulations, such as prohibiting all wagering on Swedish football with one exception for the top two leagues.
