Swiss authorities have expanded their crackdown on unlicensed online gambling, adding 376 new domains to the national blacklist.
The action targets not only offshore casinos and sportsbooks but also affiliate websites accused of directing Swiss players to unauthorized platforms.
According to the Federal Act on Gambling (AMG), only domestically licensed operators are entitled to provide gaming services in Switzerland. Online casino licences are reserved for land-based Swiss casinos, while lotteries and sports betting remain under the control of public monopolies Swisslos and Loterie Romande. Foreign operators are prohibited from accepting wagers from Swiss residents.
The discipline is led by the Swiss Federal Gaming Board (ESBK) and Gespa, which require local internet providers to implement DNS blocking. When users try to access blacklisted websites, they are redirected to a government notification page.
Although some users attempt to bypass restrictions using VPN technology, Switzerland’s highest courts have repeatedly upheld DNS blocking as a lawful and proportionate consumer protection measure.
The addition of 376 domains marks the latest phase in what regulators describe as an ongoing enforcement effort. By mid-2025, Switzerland’s blacklist already included approximately 2,600 restricted websites. With the newest expansion, the total number of blocked domains is nearing the 3,000 mark.
