Politicians in Stuttgart have approved the regulation of online casino table games in Baden-Württemberg, making it the third German state to do so after Bavaria and Schleswig-Holstein in 2024.
This follows the German Interstate Treaty on Gambling, which allowed states to regulate virtual casinos alongside legal online slots and sports betting.
Under the new framework, state-run online casino games, including blackjack and roulette, will now be permitted. Lawmakers argue that regulation is essential to steer players away from illegal operators and ensure consumer protection.
The new tax structure imposes:
- 15% tax on monthly casino revenue up to €300,000
- 20% tax on revenue between €300,000 and €750,000
- 25% tax on revenue exceeding €750,000
The German Interstate Treaty aims to redirect players from unlicensed markets, enhance consumer safeguards, and generate state revenue – objectives Baden-Württemberg’s new legislation seeks to uphold.
