Betsson AB has called off its planned acquisition of Holland Gaming Technology Ltd and Holland Power Gaming B.V., stating it now intends to pursue alternative business opportunities.
Originally announced in February 2024, the deal had been awaiting approval from the Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA). However, since the KSA had not yet ruled on the matter, Betsson exercised its option to withdraw.
As part of the cancellation, Betsson will receive a refund of €26.7 million ($30.4 million) and will return all rights to the original owners.
The announcement comes shortly after Betsson was fined SEK 6.5 million ($680,000) by Sweden’s gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, over anti-money laundering failings related to customer fund source checks. Meanwhile, the company recently reported €293.7 million in Q1 2025 revenue and also marked its entry into Brazil’s regulated market after securing a licence from the SPA.
