Brazil empowers authorities to freeze accounts linked to illegal betting

Brazil has put in place an enhanced crackdown on illegal betting through the passing of Law No. 15,358/2025 which gives both the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance the power to block bank accounts and Pix transactions associated with unlicensed operators of betting activity.

This new legislation requires all financial institutions to freeze bank accounts and block transactions related to illegal betting while ensuring due process and safeguarding player funds. This law also establishes systems to require sharing of information with other financial organizations to detect and prevent fraud within the financial system.

Regulators will provide greater oversight for Pix payments by developing stricter monitoring of transactions and creating the possibility of using filters to block suspicious activity. Companies that fail to comply with the new regulations may be subject to fines, suspension of licenses and other penalties.

All of the above measures are a large step in the direction of increasing the oversight of financial transactions and a proactive approach to eliminating All forms of illegal betting in Brazil.
