Brazil reports 519,000 self-exclusion requests in first months of betting regulation

The Brazilian federal government has released report concerning the effects of regulated iGaming on Brazil’s population. This report illustrates that there have been more than half a million people who have requested to self-exclude of using betting websites during the first months of the implementation of the Centralised Platform.

This essentially translates to a total of about 144 self-exclusions per hour for the entire Brazil.

The Brazilian government established the Centralized Platform to assist vulnerable individuals by banning them from any licensed gambling operator in Brazil. There are currently about 200 licensed operators present in the Brazilian market.

Report also found that seven in ten users opted for restrictions without a fixed end date. The system allows bettors to select temporary bans ranging from one month to one year, or apply indefinite restrictions.

Last week a a cross-party group of politicians spanning parties from PSOL to PL submitted new legislation to create more extensive oversight over the gambling operators.

The proposed law would provide the Ministry of Health in Brazil with the authority to regulate and oversee gambling operators and classify them as products that are dangerous to public health.

If this law is passed the Ministry of Health in Brazil will have full authority to approve and intervene with respect to gambling regulations and will be able to modify the regulations related to gambling in the Country of Brazil.
