Denmark’s gambling authority, Spillemyndigheden, intensified its efforts to combat illegal gambling by obtaining judgments to block 334 unlicensed gambling portals out of reach of Danish clients in 2025.
As per the most recent annual report by the agency, proactive supervision, data analytics, and public alerts resulted in a total of 695 websites being under review. Besides the locked portals, 36 companies voluntarily eliminated their gambling activity as a result of regulatory influence.
Furthermore, the authority improved its blocking plan by establishing a partnership with Teleindustrien, allowing telecom companies to close access to related websites without the necessity of additional court rulings.
With bandit operators shifting towards mobile software and social media, Spillemyndigheden finally recognized the necessity of establishing formal communication channels with Apple and Google to hasten the process of illegal software withdrawal from app stores. Also, authorized operators gained an opportunity to report brand problems to Meta directly, accelerating the removal of misleading materials.
Additionally, the report presented the continuing growth of the online gambling segment on the Danish market. In 2025, online casinos became the most significant segment of the gambling market with a 12,1% increase in gross gaming revenue and DKK4.31 million generated.
The online gambling shares in the total revenue of the Danish gambling industry reached 73% in 2025, which is an increase from 70% in 2024 and 33% in 2012.
