A court in Russia has sentenced former CEO of bookmaker Fonbet Sergey Anokhin to 8 years and 2 months in prison, along with a 12 million ruble fine.
These individuals were convicted based on how much they contributed to the crimes of corruption, mediation of corruption and organized fraud against society, both domestically and internationally. Both the attorney and the ex-police officer received sentences of 3 years and 6 months and 7 years and 2 months, respectively, as well as fines for their actions. Other co-defendants had varying degrees of involvement in these crimes based on what they agreed to do for one another.
According to investigators, Anokhin attempted to prevent the transfer of documents related to his previous financial mismanagement by paying off government officials and adding a 60 million-ruble bribe through intermediaries. One of the intermediaries acted as part of an undercover operation with a police officer and was arrested shortly after handing over the 60 million ruble bribe.
During the investigation, more than 30 interrogations were conducted, and over 15 forensic examinations were performed on items seized as a result of eight search warrants issued by the courts. In total, investigators seized approximately 55 million rubles during the investigation. These funds were later confiscated by the government.
