Germany’s federal gambling regulator Glücksspielbehörde (GGL) has launched a new coordination strategy on gambling addiction with state authorities.
Chairman Ronald Benter will meet with authorities from each of Germany’s 16 federal states to improve cooperation and exchange ideas on how to improve legislation to combat gambling addiction.
GGL said the meetings were aimed at allowing the regulator to “better understand the challenges faced by state coordination offices and to develop joint approaches for more intensive cooperation.” It identified coordination as a challenge and would prioritize feedback on health and public welfare issues.
Benter launched the work last week at a meeting with Konrad Landgraf, managing director of the Bavarian State Office for Gambling Addiction (LSG). He said:
It is vital for us to hear the views of all relevant stakeholder groups and to get a full picture of the situation. Protecting players and raising public awareness are top priorities for us. Through thematic exchanges with state coordination bureaus, we further expand our expertise.
