Goa’s casino sector has generated more than $192.9 million in state revenue over the past five years, signalling a strong recovery following the pandemic.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant confirmed that the government collected this amount from casino operations between April 2021 and February 2026.
The Government has issued a total of 23 casino licenses, including 17 land-based and 6 Sea-based casino vessels. All the operators of sea casinos have obtained the necessary licenses from the Port Captain to operate in Goa, and there are no unlicensed boats in Goa.
In addition to the casino license fees, Goa has received an additional revenue of about $3.6 million from fees related to the operation of the marine casino between 2023-2024 and the current financial year. In addition, $2.96 million was received from parking, survey and registration fees, with parking fees totaling more than $2.89 million.
In addition to being regularly inspected and complying with the Inland Shipping Act 2021 and all other maritime regulations, offshore casino ships are also required to maintain their compliance records, showing that their ships are registered, fit for the Seine, comply with passenger limits, and have appropriate safety equipment appropriate to the number of crew members
Operators are also required to follow the environmental compliance requirements promulgated by the Goa State Pollution Control Board and only anchor in the designated approval zones.
In summary, the data shows that the casino industry is still important for the economic development of Goa. Given that this sector continues to grow and is well regulated, it will continue to be vital to the economic development of the state of Goa.
