Google is set to modify its Chrome Web Store policies so that extensions dealing with real-money prediction markets will not be allowed anymore. This new rule applies from August 2026.
With the new policy in force, extensions pertaining to companies like Kalshi and Polymarket will be banned. However, implemented products in simulated prediction markets will still be allowed as long as the users are not able to earn real money.
Due to broad access of browser extensions to user activities, Google has limited developers in terms of data collection and made it mandatory to tell users about how the data is being gathered, used, shared, and stored.
In addition, the said decision matches the growing number of regulators interested in prediction markets across the globe. While the new rule bans users from using the prediction market extensions, it does not prohibit them from using prediction market platforms.
Recently, Google blocked prediction market Polymarket in some US states. This new policy is part of Google’s broader plan to enhance the security and privacy of the entire ecosystem of Chrome.
