Google, Meta, and TikTok strengthen moderation of iGaming content in Indonesia

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Technology (Komdigi) has announced an agreement with 16 major digital platforms, including TikTok, Meta, and Google, to step up moderation of content related to online gambling.

According to Komdigi, more than 2.8 million pieces of prohibited content have been identified and removed since the beginning of the year, with 2.1 million directly linked to online gambling activities. Officials emphasized that this remains one of the most pressing challenges in the country’s digital landscape.

The Director General for Digital Space Oversight revealed that a new monitoring system, known as SAMAN, will be fully operational starting in October 2025. This system is designed to improve detection and takedown speed for illegal content, while also allowing closer coordination with international platforms.

The ministry also highlighted the social harm caused by gambling, noting a rise in divorce cases tied to gambling addiction. In some regions, the majority of divorce proceedings are now linked to one partner’s problem gambling, underscoring the growing social and family impact of the issue.
