The Dutch gambling regulator, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), has identified three key focus areas during the Euro 2024 football championship: prevention, supervision, and enforcement.
A significant emphasis will be on enhancing controls to prevent young people from betting, anticipating a surge in gambling activity.
In collaboration with the Dutch national support service, Loket Kansspel, and funded by the Addiction Prevention Fund (Vpf), the KSA has launched a campaign to provide educational materials on safer betting practices for individuals aged 18 to 24.
With the slogan “Don’t Play Games With Your Money,” the campaign encourages young people to take a test to assess their gambling behavior. Those identified as having an increased risk of gambling harm are directed to Loket Kansspel. Additionally, individuals who contact Loket Kansspel during the summer will receive a free two-year subscription to the gambling self-exclusion service, Gamban.
The KSA is also engaging directly with sports betting providers to define acceptable advertising practices, warning operators to comply with the new advertising laws.
