Nepal’s telecommunications authority ordered to “immediately” shut down betting apps and websites

Nepal has made an immediate move to curb online gambling by calling for the removal of all betting applications and websites from the country within 24 hours.

In addition to this demand to deactivate all forms of electronic gambling, the Nepali Telecom Authority is also instructed to work alongside local internet service provider companies and monitor for compliance with this order.

This move is occurring in relation to an increase in unregulated gambling sites and platforms emerging throughout the country. Reports indicate that online gambling sites are now available in Nepal without any regulation or licensing procedure, providing possible regulatory and consumer protection issues.

After landslide victory in the elections of newly elected Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah decision was made.

Against illegal digital activity Nepal authorities are adopting more aggressive approach. The illegal digital activity grows in the region, including the recent attempt by the Indian government to ban real-money online gambling.
