Local reports indicate that Novikov Gennadiy Olegovich, former Head of Ukraine’s National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption, is set to take over as acting Head of the country’s newly established gambling regulator, PlayCity.
This follows the recent dissolution of the Gambling and Lotteries Regulatory Commission (CRGL) by Ukraine’s Ministry of Digital Transformation. After President Zelenskyy signed the liquidation order on April 1, most of the CRGL’s staff transitioned to PlayCity, which is now responsible for overseeing the gambling sector.
Olegovich will lead PlayCity’s regulatory efforts, aiming to promote both market stability and innovation. His background includes eight years in the prosecutor’s office in Sumy, followed by various roles in compliance and enforcement, culminating in his 2020 appointment as Head of the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption.
The announcement of Olegovich’s role came alongside news that Maxym Volodymyrovych Kuterha has been temporarily appointed Director of the Bureau of Economic Security. These updates follow the December detention of former CRGL head Ivan Rudyi, who was accused of connections to a Russian online casino and other unrelated charges. Additionally, in February, Ukraine’s State Bureau of Investigation detained a Director from the gaming firm Pin-Up.
