Panda Interactive has expanded its legal battle against Sportradar and Genius Sports, accusing the two companies of engaging in anti-competitive practices.
The sports betting and streaming operator originally filed lawsuits in October 2023 in the Texas Eastern District Court, claiming that both companies had willfully infringed on its patents for low-latency, interactive sports streaming and betting technology.
The company asserts that it has developed several patents in the streaming and live sports data sector, including technology that enables users to view live odds and place bets while watching sports. Panda previously alleged that key products from Sportradar and Genius Sports were using its patented technology without authorization. These include Genius Sports’ LiveData, LiveTrading, Genius Trading, BetVision, and In-Play Multibet, as well as Sportradar’s emBet, Sportradar OTT, and Sportradar Live Channel Trading.
On March 3, Panda Interactive announced it had amended its complaints to include claims that Sportradar and Genius Sports have been actively blocking new competitors from entering the market. It further alleged that the two companies have pressured sportsbooks into using their technology by making access to real-time sports data – through their exclusive partnerships with major sports leagues – conditional on adopting their services.
Panda Interactive is now seeking a court order to put an end to the alleged anti-competitive practices of Sportradar and Genius Sports.
Donald Schupak, the chairman of Panda Interactive, mentioned:
The defendants’ bullying takes bad behaviour to new heights – illegally using our own patented technology against us by packaging it with their platform, tying it to their exclusive data, and effectively shutting the door to fair competition.
Kevin April, the CEO of Panda Interactive, added:
Many in the industry have raised concerns about how Genius Sports and Sportradar operate, and their strong-arm tactics have coerced the market at the expense of all layers of sport.
Sportradar commented:
Like most commercial enterprises, we do not comment on pending litigation matters – even unfounded litigation. That said, we can assure you that we operate our business in compliance with existing laws and regulations. We are confident in our defense of this matter and intend to defend these allegations vigorously.
