Spain’s iGaming market grows 18.6% to €410.3 mln GGR in Q2 2025

Spain’s Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ) has released its financial report for the second quarter of 2025, showing significant growth across most verticals in the country’s regulated iGaming industry.

According to the figures, Spain’s online gambling sector generated a total gross gaming revenue (GGR) of €410.3 million, representing an 18.6% year-on-year increase and a 2.8% rise compared to Q1 2025.

Key Highlights from the Report

  • €410.3 million – Total GGR of the online segment (+18.6% YoY, +2.8% QoQ)
  • €1.35 billion – Player deposits (+23.7% YoY, -0.4% QoQ)
  • €962.9 million – Player withdrawals (+28.9% YoY, +0.6% QoQ)
  • €216.4 million – Online casino GGR, holding 52.7% of market share (+26% YoY, +6.5% QoQ)
  • €171.4 million – Online betting GGR, accounting for 41.8% of the market (+18.2% YoY, +2.7% QoQ)
  • €19.1 million – Online poker GGR, 4.7% of the market (-25.2% YoY, -25.1% QoQ)
  • €3.4 million – Online bingo GGR, 0.8% market share (-6.4% YoY, -6.9% QoQ)

Marketing and Player Engagement

Marketing spend by operators also rose sharply, totaling €164.5 million (+37.1% YoY, -0.2% QoQ). Within this:

  • €82.6 million was spent on promotions (-6.6% QoQ, +33.2% YoY)
  • €62.9 million on advertising (+5.4% QoQ, +43% YoY)
  • €14 million on affiliate marketing (+4.6% QoQ, +9.6% YoY)
  • €5 million on sponsorships (+53% QoQ, +312% YoY), marking the strongest growth in this category.

The number of active player accounts averaged 1.7 million per month during the quarter, a 21% increase year-on-year, although slightly down by 2.4% compared to Q1. Meanwhile, there were 505,000 new accounts created in Q2, up 11.7% YoY but showing a 11.6% quarterly decline.

Vertical Trends

The report also pointed to notable performance trends:

  • Online slots revenue jumped 33.6% YoY, confirming the vertical as the primary growth driver of the casino segment.
  • Pre-match betting grew 24.6% QoQ, showing increased engagement in scheduled sports markets.
  • Conversely, live betting revenue dropped sharply by 33.2% QoQ, reflecting shifting player preferences.

Market Structure

Out of 77 licensed iGaming operators in Spain, 64 were active in Q2 2025. Of these:

  • 52 operators hold online casino licenses
  • 42 operators hold sports betting licenses
  • 9 operators are licensed for poker
  • 4 operators are licensed for online bingo

Overall, the Spanish iGaming market continues to demonstrate strong momentum, particularly in online casino and betting, though poker and bingo segments face persistent declines. With increasing marketing investments and shifting player behaviors, the second half of 2025 will be key in determining whether Spain sustains this growth trajectory.
